A blender is a popular kitchen appliance that is used for mixing ingredients together and pureeing food. The term is given for the stationary appliance that sits up right on a kitchen counter top and should not be confused with handheld mixers. The container of a blender may be made of plastic, glass, stainless steel and porcelain. There are graduated markings along the sides of the container. This helps the user measure ingredients when following a recipe. A lid sits on top of the commercial blender to prevent ingredients from being expelled from the appliance when it is on and in full use.
A hand-held immersion blender is an appliance that contains a mixing head and blades that rotate. These types of blenders do not have a container. Instead the blades and mixing head become immersed inside a container filled with food or liquids. This Blender is a useful device for mixing volumes of ingredients that are too large to fit in a commercial one.
There are many uses for blenders. Users can make frozen drinks, crush ice, emulsify items, turn solid items into liquids, blend mixes that consist of powder and granules more thoroughly, make purees and grate small solid pieces into spices. A commercial blender has replaced the food processor in a lot of applications. Although, they are typically purchased for households, a blender is also used in food science and microbiology laboratories.
The mechanical operation of a blender includes the housing, blades, motor and the container. An electric motor that is cooled by a fan which is housed by vibration dampers. A minuscule shaft output goes through the upper housing and mixes in with the blade and its assembly. A seal is created by use of a tiny, rubber washer. This stops liquids from leaking though the bottom of the appliance. Typically, blenders currently on the market have several speed settings. Multiple static windings are used to create the different speeds. The Blender has many purposes. It is primarily used for mixing ingredients in the kitchen but also is used in laboratories and for food science studies. The blender has been replacing other kitchen appliances such as the food processor.
